Customer Review: Can't take the heat, keep it out of the kitchen

Up until now I've had good luck with Oxo products -- thought I'd like this initially, easy to get the bulb on and off, great cleaning with that brush. BUT. The tip drips much worse than basters I've used in past, the bulb pops off occasionally when using -- there's a mess. Today is the worst: using it to siphon off fat from roasting short ribs, THE PLASTIC TUBE STARTED MELTING. The clear plastic part actually started to curve, and the tip melted together almost shut. Had to throw it away. Just ordered the Tovolo here, which had good reviews.

For holidays and all year round, baste with ease with the OXO GOOD GRIPS Turkey Baster. Our unique bulb shape and collar make it easy to grip the Baster two different ways for maximum comfort and control. And the bulb is flat to prevent the Baster from rolling on the countertop. The Baster tube is made of crack resistant, high heat plastic for superior performance. Stardard and metric measurement markings make it easy to see how much liquid is in the Baster.The gadget innovators at Oxo have restructured the basic turkey baster to provide more comfortable use and easier cleanup. In addition to a nonslip grip, this 12-1/2-inch Good Grips baster features a distinct design: the suction tube fits into a plastic collar, which attaches to a squeeze bulb. The collar-and-bulb construction allows for both a soft and a firm grip, while the bulb's oval shape keeps it from rolling around the countertop. The clear suction tube holds up to 1-1/2 ounces and has clearly printed measurement markings in both standard and metric units. Made from crack- and heat-resistant plastic, the whole piece disassembles for easy cleaning by hand or in the top rack of the dishwasher.
